Flag Holder
Category: Leisure/recreation, Wheelchair adaptations
Project Number: VAN06006
Challenge:
Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan - who is quadriplegic - required an apparatus on his wheelchair to enable him to carry the Olympic and Paralympics flag at the games in Turin, Italy.
Solution:
The Tetra volunteer first had to research the weight and the size of the flag, taking wind and weather into consideration, before constructing a suitable flag-holder. He created a stainless steel U-bracket to attach the flag-holder to Sullivan's wheelchair, and a funnel to guide the flagpole into the receiver. This device was fabricated by staff at Vancouver City Hall.
